It was the Badminton doubles semi final match at the Delhi Common Wealth Games that I saw her play, and I couldn’t take my eyes of her. Her contagious smile and playful eyes combined with superb skills of the forehand and the back hand with which she so easily controlled and defended her game, eventually won her a place at the finals and a well deserved Gold medal.
Born to a family of Sportsman, thanks to my dad; my siblings and I have had our fair share of growth in the sports arena, with each of us representing at least at the district/state levels until other priorities took precedence. I define my father as a true sportsman, who represented at national levels for both Cricket and Badminton in Nepal.
Even while his beautiful wife was in the labour room, this thorough gentleman was either defending his wicket or captaining his team on the field. He quit main stream sports after my little sister was born; and moved to an administrative role as the national selector of the Nepal Cricket Team that has progressed astonishingly well in the last two under 19 cricket world cups.
I love sports and need my daily dose of playing; thanks to his genes, though I haven’t taken sports to the extent that he has, but I do believe that I will play a major role in the growth of sports talent in the coming future. As I settle down with my childhood passion and dream, I have begun my work at concepts and ideas to help sports in this region that I currently reside in.
I was completely in awe seeing her play. I googled her, read up a little and was mesmerized at her silent growth on this platform. I immediately shot her a mail congratulating her on her brilliant performance and also was sweet enough to mention that I had a crush on her 😉
Her reply to my mail made my day. I take this gesture as my green signal for what I will now wish for.
I wish that as Ek Titli and I grow, I will play an active and constructive role to the development of sports in my region and eventually the country.
