The Batti Bandh or the Mumbai Unplug campaign has been a success, even if 10-20% of the Mumbai population participated. I am sure that the figures will be different if this campaign is done again in the future. It only shows that people are interested and want to help in combating Global Warming, because agree or disagree we are causing it.
The remainder either weren’t aware of such a movement (where on the 15th of December, all electrical appliances and consumers had to be switched off from 7:30 pm IST for an hour) or they had this to say, “How Does it Matter?â€
Such people are apprehensive because we humans are always pessimistic about a change or trying something new.
Humans believe that they always need a leader to perform a show, it talks about our dependency. It’s sad to say that they/we have forgotten the power of ‘I’
For the fight against Global Warming we don’t need leaders, we need ‘I’s. It has to be you, me and our contemporaries joining hands not to follow someone but working together to fight it.
You may be the one who said, “How does it Matter?†but remember it’s the thought that matters because a thought becomes a habit; a habit becomes your nature; a nature your character. And it’s this character that creates Revolutions.
So, don’t kill the thought by saying “How does it matter?â€

Global warming, did I read that.,
U talk of the whole thing on the basis that this theory exists, but there are equal number of theories opposing it,
The book “ State of Fear†which U have also read,
Some theories say its to keep us occupied to avoid the third world war since this will be a global thing.
I was with U when U were wandering around the building, I loved the enthusiasm U showed.
Coming back to the point, switching lights for an hour or something., don’t quite make sense to me,
It wud be better if U cud tell people about utilizing the resources carefully,
It wud help more.
cuz science and technology are to make life easy,
dude,
There are always two sides to a coin. the head says global warming exists and the tail says it doesn’t … You are calling Tail and yr views are being backed by State of Fear and mine that is, the head, is influenced by the extreme changes that r taking place in the world..Gangotri is drying up, Antartica is losing it’s ice sheets, there is a hole in the ozone layer.. and this hasn’t been mentioned in State of Fear… these are effects of global warming..
Look for a documentary by Al Gore called An Inconvenient Truth..
i.e., if u want to understand the theory and the existence of Global Warming.
dude…if i request a person to switch off the lights for an hour, I have already planted the seed in his mind to create a curiosity. He would want to know why am I requesting him to do such a “bizzare” thing. Finally, he’ll understand that this is being done to manage resources and use them fruitfully and efficiently, not waste it.
At the end of the day, the objective is achieved ..whether i go and tell him about using resources intelligently or i request him to turn of the lights. Because when i do the later, i get him involved. This gives him a first hand experience.
And talking about the former, they all knew about the Mumbai Unplugged – Batti Bandh initiative but they still didn’t volunteer though they wanted to, until I requested them to participate. So, they were aware about “utilizing the resources carefully” but they floundered when they had to apply it practically..
way to go boy.,
I wont say ask me for help whenever n all that.
,cuz U know how I am.,
I am gonna do wat I am gonna do.
n ya
